Boundless Love

“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His faithful love toward those who fear Him.”  Psalm 103:11 (HCSB)

When I think about God’s everlasting love, the word ‘boundless’ comes to mind. Expansive, never-ending, and never giving up are also apt. Research of the term “boundless love” states that “boundless love has no limits or boundaries, signifying an infinite and unconditional affection for someone or something, often associated with a deep, all-encompassing love that is not restricted by conditions or limitations; essentially, a love that is completely limitless and freely given.”

I wish to submit that God’s love for us is freely given and has no boundaries. It stretches beyond our wildest hopes. It cannot be measured, earned, or diminished, and regardless of our shortcomings, remains steadfast. The Sunday School says: “God’s love is so high, you can’t get over it, so low you can’t get under it, so wide, you can’t get around it…”

Stop for a moment and think about this simple truth: there is nothing we can do to make God love us more and nothing we can do to make Him love us less. Whether we feel worthy or unworthy, God’s love remains what it is: constant, boundless, everlasting. For this reason, if no other, we should always be grateful to Him. Cory Asbury sang:

“Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God,

Oh, it chases me down, fights till I’m found…”

Friends, God loves us. He didn’t have to send His Son to die for our sake, but He did anyway. His love for us is such that we can never fully comprehend it. He reaches us wherever we are in life, whatever condition we are in, and He lovingly brings us to Himself. His love came after us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8), and it continues to come after us even in our imperfections.  His love is active — it protects, forgives, heals, and provides. It is a love that moves mountains and calms storms. Most profoundly, His love was displayed on the cross (John 3:16), where Jesus willingly gave His life so that we could experience the fullness of God’s love and grace.

Do not take God’s love for granted! Seek to become more like Him by changing our unholy desires. Today, take time to thank God for His boundless love that surrounds us continually, and allow yourself to rest in the assurance that His love will never diminish. Let this truth anchor your heart and give you hope, and live knowing God’s love is truly boundless!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your boundless, unchanging love. Help us to trust in Your love even when life feels uncertain. Daily, may Your love be our strength, our comfort, and our peace. Help us, Lord, to love others the way You love us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
